KIMIK iT A/SCompany profile
Mission StatementKIMIK iT A/S strives to enhance and continuously expand the skills, knowledge and use of information technology by the company as well as by its customers by employing the most modern techniques throughout all its solutions and products. What's in a name? The Greenlandic word "kimik" means "strength" and though the company was put into business as recent as January 1. 1999 the company draws on the strength and skills of a core team of highly experienced technicians that already had been working closely together for 10 years when they founded KIMIK iT A/S. HistoryIn 1988 the delegate assembly of The Association of Local Authorities in Greenland, KANUKOKA on recommendation from present day KIMIK iT A/S' managing director, Ian N. Wennerfeldt decided on a common IT-strategy for all municipalities. As result of this decision an autonomous department under the leadership of mr. Wennerfeldt was established on January 1. 1989 as an extension to KANUKOKA. After ten very productive years of developing advanced administrative solutions for the municipalities, the delegate assembly decided to close down the KANUKOKA IT-department by the end of 1998 in order to facilitate the forming of an open and competitive IT-marked in Greenland by way of privatizing municipal IT-services. In consequence all employees in the KANUKOKA IT-department were given notice and in order to keep the highly skilled team together and secure a continuous IT-service for the municipalities, the former employees so to speak "took matters in their own hands" and founded KIMIK iT A/S in September 1998. Business AreasSince its start KIMIK iT A/S has eagerly focused on expanding its area of business and besides still having a strong base in its solutions to the Grenlandic municipalities, KIMIK iT A/S today serves most of the Greenland Homerule ministerial departments and many of the larger private and public enterprises in Greenland with a broad variety of IT-services. As provider of overall IT-solutions many of its customers have outsourced their IT-operations to KIMIK iT A/S. Greenland at the same time being the size of Europe with a population of only 55.000 scattered along the coastline in small settlements, KIMIK iT A/S is highly experienced in remote handling of all most any IT-related task - Even more so as one third of the company's own employees today are located outside Greenland - many of these telecommuting on a daily basis from all over the Danish and Faroe islands to KIMIK iT A/S' Danish office in Aarhus, 2,500 miles from the company's main office in Nuuk, Greenland. This being a natural backdrop to KIMIK iT A/S' applications and solutions has contributed to a large number of concepts and techniques that provides extreme stability and accessibility even when running in remote locations with sparse or no infrastructure, technical insight, low bandwidth and fluctuating local power supply. To secure against loss of data in this environment the Oracle RDBMS has always represented one of the core elements in the solutions and KIMIK iT A/S today has more than 14 years of experience in the Oracle line of products. When the Internet became a reality in Greenland in 1996 the technology was of course seen as an answer to many problems that had required proprietary solutions up until then and therefore promptly accepted as foundation to most KIMIK iT A/S solutions. As one of the first in the world to do so KIMIK iT A/S has developed a complete system for municipal administration based on pure Internet technology as well as many other solutions that would normally be build using more traditional programming tools. PartnersApart from partnering with Oracle and being a Microsoft Certified Partner for as long as this concept has existed KIMIK iT A/S is partnering with a number of larger corporations delivering highly specialize software and hardware solutions, thus providing its customers with an in-depth knowledge of a wide range of state-of-the-art IT-products and services covering almost any aspect of the IT-business.
